Microneedling
Microneedling in Blythewood, SC
Two Treatments, One Goal Healthier Skin
Microneedling has come a long way. At Blythewood Esthetics & Wellness, we use Exion® by BTL Aesthetics to offer two distinct RF microneedling treatments, each one built for a different layer of the skin and a different set of concerns. If surface issues like pigmentation and uneven texture are your priority, Exion Clear RF works without needles to address exactly that. If your concerns run deeper, such as loose skin, acne scarring, or loss of firmness, Exion Fractional RF uses precision microneedles to work at a structural level. One consultation is all it takes to figure out which path makes sense for you.

Two Approaches, Clearly Explained
Exion Clear RF: Surface Renewal Without Needles
Exion Clear RF takes a non-invasive approach to skin improvement. Using smart micro-ablation technology, it delivers controlled RF energy at the skin’s surface to address pigmentation, dullness, and texture irregularities with no needles and no significant downtime. It is a practical option for anyone wanting to refresh their complexion and even out tone without committing to a more intensive procedure.
Exion Fractional RF: Deep, Structural Improvement
Exion Fractional RF goes beneath the surface. Fine microneedles channel radiofrequency energy into the deeper layers of the skin, where it triggers the body’s own collagen and elastin production. Over time, this supports genuine structural improvement, including tighter skin, softer scarring, and reduced lines. It is the more intensive treatment of the two, and the results reflect that.
Still deciding? Your consultation will give you a clear picture of which treatment fits your skin and your goals, or whether a combination of both makes the most sense.

What Happens When You Come In
We Start With a Conversation
Before any treatment begins, we sit down to understand what is bothering you about your skin, look at what we are working with, and figure out whether Clear RF, Fractional RF, or a combination is the right fit for your situation.
The Session Itself
Exion Clear RF is comfortable and requires no numbing. For Exion Fractional RF, we apply a topical anesthetic ahead of time so you stay comfortable throughout. Both treatments are completed in a single efficient session with no complex setup.
You Leave With a Plan
Aftercare instructions, product recommendations, and a suggested treatment schedule all get covered before you walk out the door.
Pre and Post Care Guidelines
Before Treatment
- Come in with clean skin, no makeup, moisturizer, or active skincare products.
- Stay out of direct sun and avoid tanning beds for a full seven days before your appointment.
- Pause retinoids and chemical exfoliants three to seven days in advance, depending on which treatment you are receiving.
- Let your provider know about any medications you are taking, recent procedures, or skin sensitivities before your session begins.
After Treatment
- Give treated skin at least six hours before washing or touching the area.
- Hold off on makeup for 24 to 72 hours to give your skin the space it needs to recover.
- Daily SPF 30 or higher is essential after treatment, as your skin will be more reactive to sun exposure than usual.
- Skip intense workouts, hot showers, and steam rooms for the first 48 hours following your session.
Why Blythewood Esthetics & Wellness
A Clinical Eye for Skin
Dr. Nina Hyvarinen Jones approaches every treatment from both a medical and an aesthetic perspective. Her background gives her a deeper understanding of how the skin works and how to get the most out of the technology we use.
The Right Tool for Each Job
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, we use two distinct Exion® treatments so your care is matched to your actual concerns. Clear RF for the surface and Fractional RF for the deeper layers, both on the same advanced platform.
More Than One Reason to Visit
Our Blythewood practice brings together a range of health and aesthetic services, so clients looking to address multiple concerns do not have to travel to multiple locations.
Built Around You
Treatment plans here are not generic. We look at where your skin is today, where you want it to go, and build a realistic path to get there, adjusting along the way based on how your skin responds.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference between Exion Clear RF and Exion Fractional RF?
Clear RF works on the surface without needles, and Fractional RF works beneath the surface with them. Clear RF is best for pigmentation, tone, and texture. Fractional RF is better suited for laxity, deeper lines, and scarring. Your provider will help you sort out which one fits your situation during the consultation.
How do I choose between the two treatments?
You do not have to figure that out on your own. Your initial consultation covers your concerns, your skin history, and your goals. From there, your provider will give you a clear recommendation, which may include one treatment, the other, or a combination of both at different points in your plan.
How many sessions should I expect?
Three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart are a common starting point for most clients. Your provider will put together a plan specific to your skin rather than a standard formula.
Is there pain involved?
Exion Clear RF does not require numbing and is well-tolerated by most people. Exion Fractional RF involves a topical anesthetic applied before the session. During treatment, clients typically notice mild warmth or light pressure rather than sharp discomfort.
How long before I notice a difference?
Some surface changes from Clear RF may be visible relatively quickly. Fractional RF results develop more gradually, and improvements often continue for three to six months after treatment as collagen remodeling progresses.
What is the recovery like?
Clear RF involves minimal recovery. After Fractional RF, some redness and mild sensitivity for a day or two is normal. Your provider will walk you through exactly what to expect based on your specific treatment.
Can I treat areas beyond my face?
Yes. Both treatments work on the neck, décolletage, and other body areas where texture concerns, laxity, or scarring are present.
Are these treatments appropriate for all skin types?
We tailor every session to the individual. Your provider will assess your skin during the consultation and adjust the approach to suit your skin type and any sensitivities.
